Molecular characterization of resistance to fluoroquinolones in Bartonella henselae and Bartonella quintana.
Only the plasmid from the human E. coli isolate differed in RFLP fingerprint pattern from the other blaCTX-M-2-carrying plasmids. Southern blot hybridization with a blaCTX-M-2 probe revealed a .10 kb EcoRI fragment in the plasmids from the porcine and broiler E. coli isolates and from the Salmonella Virchow CODA-1 isolate. Two EcoRI fragments of 6 and 10 kb were found in the plasmid from the hu...
متن کاملMolecular identification and phylogenic analysis of Bartonella henselae isolated from Iranian cats based on gltA gene
One of the most important species of the Bartonella genus is B. henselae that causes a zoonotic infection, cat scratch disease (CSD). The main source of the bacteria is cat and the carrier is Ctenocephalides felis flea. One hundred and forty nail and saliva samples were collected from 70 domestic cats. Positive samples for B. henselae were characterized by po...
متن کاملBartonella henselae in Porpoise Blood
We report detection of Bartonella henselae DNA in blood samples from 2 harbor porpoises (Phocoena phocoena). By using real-time polymerase chain reaction, we directly amplified Bartonella species DNA from blood of a harbor porpoise stranded along the northern North Carolina coast and from a pre-enrichment blood culture from a second harbor porpoise. The second porpoise was captured out of habit...
متن کاملPhase variation in Bartonella henselae.
Bartonella henselae is a fastidious, Gram-negative bacterial pathogen of cats and humans. Previous workers have shown that serial passage in vitro leads to attenuation of virulence-associated attributes such as expression of pili, invasion of human epithelial cell lines and the stimulation of endothelial cell proliferation. In contrast to the published data, it was found that pilin expression i...
متن کاملMolecular Epidemiology of Feline and Human Bartonella henselae Isolates
Multiple locus variable number tandem repeat analysis was performed on 178 Bartonella henselae isolates from 9 countries; 99 profiles were distributed into 2 groups. Human isolates/strains were placed into the second group. Genotype I and II isolates shared no common profile. All genotype I isolates clustered within group B. The evolutive implications are discussed.
